The motto UNITY MAKES POWER connects Breukelen with Brooklyn. The text is in the official seal and on the flag of the Borough of Brooklyn. The mayor literally and figuratively stands behind these (old Dutch) words at every official appearance.
It's a powerful text. By working together, we are stronger. And we get more done. Those who work together are stronger and get more done.
'Unity makes strength' was the official motto of The Netherlands from 1588-1795, at the time of the Republic of the United Netherlands. This makes it not only the motto of Brooklyn, but also lays a beautiful foundation under the current 'bridge'.
